Intersectionality
Seasons of Love
Kamala Harris is a beautiful example of the diversity in America. Along her way to the White House, there have been many critics that focus solely on her identity. I believe that it is very important for students to understand how different intersecting identities are not chosen by an individual. Through these resources, students can explore how many aspects of intersectionality are intertwined with one's family.

Kamala: Next In Line, is an excellent way to learn about this rising star in American politics. In many ways she possesses the same qualities of interacting and engaging with citizens in the way John Lewis did. This would be an excellent way to show students that politicians are just like regular people, and that we do not have to put them on a pedestal. WARNING! There is some explicit language in this series, so be sure to listen to it, and censor it before sharing with students! |

History
This is great video that chronicles the history of the "American Family" throughout the twentieth century. I think that it is important for students to understand the idea of the Nuclear Family before engaging with the nuances of what a "family" is today. |

Sara O'Leary's A Family is a Family is a Family is an amazing read aloud book that shows how families come in all different types, shapes, and sizes. My favorite thing about this book is that it does not put any emphasis on different types of families. Instead, it looks past intersecting identities and focuses on the most important quality of a family, love. |

This is a how-to video of how to create an ebook through the web-based application StoryJumper. I see students using this, or a similar platform, to customize a book about their own family. Each student could then present their book to the class to show them what their family looks like. An activity that could be included with this would be for students to recognize and honor the intersecting identities that their classmates have. |
